The LPTFA provided an $850,000 grant to Lafayette City-Parish Government for the development and construction of the Rosa Parks Multi-Modal Transportation Center in Lafayette.

Located in downtown Lafayette, the Rosa Parks Multi-Modal Transportation Center includes a two-story, 40,000-square-foot building that will house the U.S. Post Office on the first floor and several divisions of the Department of Transportation on the second floor. The structure will also house the region’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and serve to control all of Lafayette Consolidated Government’s traffic signals from a centralized location – as well as provide more than 50 video cameras for traffic control. In addition, the Rosa Parks Center is part of a complex that already includes a train depot and a city bus station that opened in 2004.

Completion of this new facility will serve as a continuation of the redevelopment of downtown Lafayette. Following completion (scheduled for 2011), the nearby 8,000-square-foot Postal Square building will be demolished and converted to a landscaped parking area for patrons of the post office as well as the transportation center.
